Where The Mountains Meet The Music: Closing Out [Season2026] in Newcastle

The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch is delighted to announce that our final outdoor contest of [Season2026] will be the Heart O’ Down Pipe Band + Drum Major Championships 2026, taking place on Saturday 22 August in the ever‑iconic Donard Park, Newcastle — a venue woven into the very fabric of our competitive history.

For decades, bands and spectators have made an almost annual pilgrimage to the foot of the Mournes, where the sea breeze, the mountain backdrop, and the unmistakable buzz of Newcastle combine to create one of the most cherished atmospheres in our contest calendar. This year, that familiar magic comes with an extra spark — these Championships arrive just one week after The Worlds, giving us the perfect chance to celebrate any newly crowned World Champions and welcome home those who represented our Branch with pride and prestige.

And as if that weren’t enough, this year’s event also incorporates our Champion of Champions presentations — recognising our bands and drum majors who have excelled across all local outdoor contests this year and we plan to finish with the usual parade of the Newcastle Promenade. It’s the ultimate season finale: one last chance to hit the grass locally, one last cheer from the crowd, one last beat before the tune of [Season2026] finishes.

What to Expect

  • A family‑friendly festival atmosphere in one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic coastal towns
  • A tradition continued, celebrating the long‑standing connection between Newcastle, our Branch, and generations of competitors
  • Top‑class performances from bands across all grades, giving their final outdoor run of the season
  • Drum Major competition featuring the precision, poise, and personal excellence that defines our Branch
  • Champion of Champions prizegiving, recognition for the most consistent performers across [Season2026]
  • A celebratory parade to close the day and the season — a chance to cheer all our bands and drum majors for their successes
