A First in The Pipe Band Scene

The RSPBANI was delighted to celebrate Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE and the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band at the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Championships on Saturday, 4th August, for the band’s special award and recognition at the TG4 Gradam Ceoil earlier this year. The TG4 Gradam Ceoil are the ‘Oscars’ of traditional Irish music and 2018 marked the first time in their history that a pipe band was featured at the event, both as an award recipient and feature performance.

“Our aim is to celebrate the music of pipe bands and support our Northern Irish bands in gaining recognition on local, national and international stages,” said RSPBANI President, Winston Pinkerton. “We are very proud of Field Marshal Montgomery leading the way in bridging a gap in our island’s musical cultures and hope to see much more of our musical traditions coming together in the future.”
