The RSPBA Summer School on Tour, hosted by the Northern Ireland Branch in Portstewart was again a resounding success. 50 pupils attended over the three days and took classes in Piping, Highland Dancing and Drum Majoring. Tutors John Nevans (piping), Diane Krugh (dancing) and Paula Braiden (Drum Majors) enjoyed their third consecutive summer school and are looking forward to next year already!

The wokshops always culminate with a light hearted display where pupils get the opportunity to show their parents and friends what they’ve learned and this year was no different. After the Drum Major and highland dancing displays, the pipers surprised everyone by playing tunes that they had composed themselves during the week. Certificates were presented and, as has become tradition, the summer school ended with tutors and pupils taking part in the Gay Gordons, which John Nevans took great delight in playing faster and faster!

As part of the piping classes the students composed some new tunes. Click on the links below to see the tunes.

A big thank you to all the tutors and pupils who helped make this event both successful and a lot of fun!
