Ashley McMichael wins ‘Senior Ulster Solo Piping Champion’ title for the fifth time.
The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, Northern Ireland Branch (RSPBANI) held the Ulster Solo Piping & Drumming Championships at Lisnagarvey High School, Lisburn on Saturday 21st April. Antrim man Ashley McMichael (Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band) won the ‘Senior Ulster Solo Piping Champion’ title for the fifth time; the runner-up was Kris Coyle (Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band) with Ben Greeves (Drumlough Pipe Band) third. The Senior Drumming Overall was won by William Glenholmes (Vale of Atholl Pipe Band); the runner-up was Jason Hoy (Vale of Atholl Pipe Band) with Gareth McLees (Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band) third. The special guest was Cllr Hazel Legge (Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council) who presented the awards.

Bass & Tenor: Open Bass: 1st Robert Coady. Under 14 Tenor: Holly Purvis. Under 16 Tenor: Aoife Bissett. Junior Tenor: Emma Frazer. The qualifiers for the World Solo Drumming Championships from the NI Branch heat were William Glenholmes, Gareth McLees, Jason Hoy and Marcus Wenlock.
