Moving on Music presents a tour starting next week with Celtic piping champions Ross Ainslie (Scotland, highland pipes, border pipes) and Jarlath Henderson (NI, uilleann pipes). The trio play a mix of Scottish and Irish traditional music along with original music and songs. Ross Ainslie is one of Scotland’s finest pipers and composers, was a member the Grade 1 Vale of Atholl Pipe Band where he was mentored by the legendary piper Gordon Duncan. He has performed with an array of artists, is a founding member of the acclaimed Treacherous Orchestra, has been nominated for a range of awards and has recently won Trad Composer of the Year at the Scot Trad Music Awards. Within this trio setting he performs on a mix of border pipes and whistles.

 

Jarlath, originally from Tyrone, grew up learning uilleann pipes with the Armagh Pipers Club. He was the first NI musician to win the prestigious BBC Young Folk Musician of the Year, and is a three time All-Ireland Champion uilleann piper. He performs regularly with musicians such as Salsa Celtica and Capercaille and has recorded with the likes of Cara Dillion.
