Now that the Pipe Band Contest season has come to an end, a little earlier than usual; the President, Chairman, Officers and Executive Committee of RSPBANI and indeed all who have been involved in delivering our outdoor contests want to express our appreciation to all who competed, participated and came along to support our events.  We were indeed blessed with good weather and there was a wonderful friendly family feeling at the competitions.

Many of our Bands and Drum Majors are very busy making the final preparations for the annual mass departure to Glasgow for the World Championships.  We wish all our Bands and Drum Majors the very best for the weekend ahead, let us strive for World’s success and have a very enjoyable weekend in Glasgow whatever the results.  RSPBANI are rightly very proud of all of those involved in whatever way in our musical community.

Ray Hall                                            Winston Pinkerton

A First in The Pipe Band Scene

The RSPBANI was delighted to celebrate Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE and the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band at the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Championships on Saturday, 4th August, for the band’s special award and recognition at the TG4 Gradam Ceoil earlier this year. The TG4 Gradam Ceoil are the ‘Oscars’ of traditional Irish music and 2018 marked the first time in their history that a pipe band was featured at the event, both as an award recipient and feature performance.

“Our aim is to celebrate the music of pipe bands and support our Northern Irish bands in gaining recognition on local, national and international stages,” said RSPBANI President, Winston Pinkerton. “We are very proud of Field Marshal Montgomery leading the way in bridging a gap in our island’s musical cultures and hope to see much more of our musical traditions coming together in the future.”

More highlights from the night include P/M Richard Parkes MBE welcoming His Excellency Michael D.
